Theophilus Cafe is a place where we can have a running dialogue based on a question or issue that I post. Think of the Cafe as a virtual coffee house where you can gather with your friends and discuss the posted topic or just reflect on it. Please post your thoughts or response on this topic in the comments. So the question today is: Do people lose faith by reasoned arguments or do they just drift away? (based on a comment made by C.S. Lewis in ‘Mere Christianity’)

Whether by reasoned arguments or a drifting away, I believe the deeper reason people lose faith is found in Hebrews Chapters 3 & 4. Go ahead, read it. A hardening of the heart due to the deceitfulness of sin can happen to even the most “sincere” believer. There is a laboring we must put forth, and that labor is the labor of entering His rest, which is the “spacious place” called faith, and this is the place where I always find more than enough grace to cling. It’s the place where I can drop anchor, and let hope spring eternal. But I’m not exempt, I must guard against the “daily drift” because it happens without my trying. I must labor to find His rest and stay there.
